A Rich History

The Meltem was the first large Yacht for Amel

Henri Amel

Henri Amel was the Founder of the Amel Yard in La Rochelle. This picture is taken on his Meltem he was personally delivering to his friend in Tahiti.

He called the trip the Coconut Cruise, because they were sailing West to chase coconuts.

Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso loved sailboats, the sea, the Med, and his daughter Maya.

Here are two paintings he did of Maya and sailboats

Maya Picasso

Maya Picasso owned one of the early Meltems, and the yacht was last seen in the Ile de la Reunion.

Amel is widely known throughout the world as THE cruising yacht. Anchor in a remote island, far from the hub of a charter company, and chances are that most of the fellows cruisers around have an Amel.

Learn the difference et watch the evolution of this legendary brand.

You can learn about generations of Amel yachts here.

I have to admit, I like warm and pristine waters and remote anchorages.

Like this one in a remote Minorca Cala of the Balearis Islands…

Maintenance is not always fun but important

You just dropped that unique screwdriver in the bilge, and the cell phone that was in your shirt pocket falls as well in the oily slime, just as you were so close to grab it.

Heavy maintenance is not always that bad BUT if done well it will save your life…

On “Rode Trip” the Yanmar 125HP is a massive beast in the middle of the engine compartment.

In 2021 we replaced a lot of parts…
